What is provided

• Semantic headings, landmarks, skip links, and keyboard navigation. In the complete book, J and K move to the next or previous fable, C opens the contents, T returns to the top, and Escape closes any open panel. You can turn these single-key shortcuts off under Reading options; they come back on when you reload the page.
• A dark colour theme that follows the device setting, with the paintings unchanged
• Visible focus states and text alternatives for every meaningful illustration
• Responsive layouts with no required horizontal scrolling at common mobile widths
• Gentle, looping illustration animations in the complete book and on each fable’s own page. They play by default; each fable page and the complete book have an on/off switch. Reduced-motion settings keep the illustrations still.
• Scalable text and strong reading contrast
• A searchable, illustrated, tagged PDF and a reflowable EPUB alongside the web edition
• A large-text PDF in 18-point type, for printing or for reading with screen magnification

Known limitations

The web edition is intentionally long because it contains the whole book. Its table of contents and sticky reading navigation provide direct routes into each section. Some cover and title images include decorative lettering drawn into the picture. The stories, headings, and morals are always real text, so you can select them, enlarge them, or have them read aloud.

The illustrated PDF keeps the designed spreads, so it can be awkward on a small screen. The home-printing, large-text, and low-ink PDFs are not tagged for screen readers. The EPUB is the recommended format for readers who need reflow, custom type size, or assistive reading software.

Offline reading is limited on purpose. The site keeps the book’s text and any stories you have already opened on this device. It never automatically saves the PDF, the EPUB, the animations, or the illustrations. Those larger files load only while you are connected.

Automated checks test page structure, keyboard order, visible focus, text spacing, reduced motion, layout on small screens, consistent alternative text across formats, and the structure of the EPUB and tagged PDF. Forced colours, focus appearance over every rendered surface, and real browser zoom still require human confirmation. The PDF does not claim PDF/UA conformance, and the EPUB does not claim formal EPUB Accessibility conformance. Human checks with Apple Books, Thorium, VoiceOver, NVDA, and screen magnification remain part of reader testing.
