Privacy

Young Machines uses optional Google Analytics to understand visits and book downloads. Analytics loads only if you accept it. There are no accounts, advertising, or third-party media embeds.

The short version

Analytics cookies are optional. Accept or reject them in the cookie controls. You can change your choice using Cookie settings at the foot of any page.

Your analytics choice is stored in this browser for six months under youngmachines-analytics-consent. Rejecting analytics stops collection and removes this site’s Google Analytics cookies. It does not erase previously collected reports.

The reader may choose to store four plain-text preferences in this browser. None is sent to Young Machines:

aifables-animation-preference remembers whether optional illustration motion is on.
aifables-reading-mode remembers illustrated or text-first reading mode.
aifables-remember-place records whether the reader has opted in to saving a reading place.
aifables-reading-place stores the most recent section identifier only while that opt-in is on.

These values remain until the reader changes the setting, uses the visible forget control, or clears site data in the browser. They contain no name, account identifier, reading history, or analytics identifier.

Google Analytics

With your permission, Google Analytics receives page visits, referring pages, browser and device information, and clicks on PDF and EPUB downloads. It uses first-party cookies (_ga and _ga_*) lasting up to six months to distinguish browsers and sessions. Google processes connection information, including your IP address; GA4 does not log or store individual IP addresses.

We disable Google Signals and advertising personalisation. We do not send names, email addresses, saved reading places, or URL query strings and fragments. Google processes analytics data on our behalf, potentially outside your country. See how Google uses data from partner sites.

Hosting data

This site is hosted by GitHub Pages. GitHub states that it logs visitors’ IP addresses for security purposes when a Pages site is visited, whether or not the visitor is signed in. The operator of Young Machines does not receive or maintain those server logs.

GitHub processes hosting data under its own privacy statement. Its description of Pages data collection is available in GitHub’s Pages documentation.

Children and families

The book is written for shared reading around age ten. Analytics is off by default for everyone. Reading and downloading never require analytics consent. There are no profiles, comments, purchases, newsletters, or direct messages on this domain.

Downloads and external links

Downloading the PDF or EPUB makes an ordinary request to the same GitHub Pages host. Links to other websites are governed by those sites’ own privacy practices.

Young Machines is operated by Nell Watson, Inc. Questions about this notice can be sent through Nell Watson’s contact page. If the site changes its data collection, this notice will be updated before those features are enabled.
